This song was written from a true story of my encounter with a Sergeant who was trying to recruit me at the PNE in Vancouver,

One warm summer night looking for somewhere to be
I was approached by the Sergeant Major he was recruiting at the PNE.

He said, “Would you like to join, man. And become part of a peace keeping War.”
I said, “No thanks, Sarge, I’m just a guy playing blues door to door”

He replied, “You’re not to old buddy – you can fight till your fifty five
It’ll make you feel good, there’s a pension, it’ll make you feel young and alive.”

They want to take me and send me away
And put me in a place where I can play
In a blues band
In Afghanistan

“You can join up and we’ll put you in a band as soon as you can shoot a gun.
Marching in the heat and playing your blues at night doesn’t that sound like fun?”

“You’re a peacemaker”, he said, “whether you’ve got a guitar or a gun.
It’s all the same over there; it’s about playing out the game until you’re done.”

“Done when?” I asked, “Winning what game and making peace for who?
I’ve learned along time ago, Sarge, music doesn’t hide what you feel or do!”
