An open hand for those he meets
Desperate eyes glance at the silver quarters
He says, “Bless you sire, have a good week”

Ragged old man slumps from a drinking binge
Laying on a bench beside a syringe
He’s taken away before the next bus comes in,
Never to be seen again.

She enters the shelter in the midst of night
Her blanket wrapped children are full of fright
She can’t explain to them why they are there
They just know it’s not right

A young woman is pushed to the ground
While everyone else looks around
She wanted to take what she thought she needed
Then the items were found
